17³Ô¹ÏÍø Partners with Reading Police on Simulation

Strengthening Existing Emergency Plan

As part of the 17³Ô¹ÏÍø campus safety plan, the Reading Police Department in conjunction with Reading Fire and EMS, Cumru Township Police, West Reading Police and 17³Ô¹ÏÍø public safety and residence life personnel, conducted a SIMULATED active shooter training scenario on August 16,  on 17³Ô¹ÏÍø's main campus in Reading.

The scenario involved role players and included a simulated armed suspect and simulated casualties which were triaged by EMS. The scenario also involved an emergency response from Reading Police and a lock down of the campus along with electronic emergency messaging.

The simulated active shooter scenario was designed to strengthen the university’s existing emergency action plan; test and evaluate communication between security staff at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø and emergency response teams; educate and train emergency response personnel; and evaluate standard operating procedures and tactics.
